Few things are required to be in our refrigerator at all times. One of those things is my homemade BBQ sauce.
I will give you the super awesome, super easy recipe…but only if you promise to keep it a secret between you and I.
Ingredients for Homemade BBQ Sauce:
2 cups ketchup (if you make your own ketchup, feel free to use this as the base!)
1 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 tsp pepper
Procedure for Homemade BBQ Sauce:
Put all ingredients in large bowl. Mix it up until smooth — a mini-whisk works best for me. Put that amazing conglomeration of goodness into a squeezy bottle or glass mason jar. Store in the refrigerator. You can double or triple this recipe nicely.
Enjoy your homemade BB sauce on everything. Maybe not ice cream or chocolate cake, but pretty much everything else. Like a pork roast you’re going to stick in the smoker…
I’m often asked if you’re able to can this homemade BBQ sauce. I know that you CAN can BBQ sauce (instructions for canning another recipe here) but I’ve not canned this particular recipe. It does not have extra vinegar in it, so I would just stick to keeping this in the fridge. (Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments.)
Note: If you like spicy stuff, do like my oldest farmboy does and add hot sauce to the mix. His favorite is to add Sriracha (aka: Rooster Sauce) to the above recipe. Because of this, my oldest farmboy has his own special bottle of Spicy BBQ sauce in the fridge, well marked and not to be confused with the wimpy (but delicious) stuff some of the rest of us use. 😉
