One of my favorite go to recipes for rolls is Honey Wheat Pan Rolls. It’s an easy recipe that gives you two dozen fluffy rolls, baked in two 9×13 pans.

Honestly, I can’t believe I spaced so long on sharing this recipe with you. Because I make these all. the. time.

(Oh! And friends! Now there is a printable version of this recipe at the bottom of this post! Ask and you shall receive, right? Right.)

Ingredients for Honey Wheat Pan Rolls

1 1/2 cups warm water

2 Tbsp yeast (yes, tablespoons)

1/4 cup honey

1 scant Tbsp salt (yes, tablespoon)

1/2 cup melted butter (cooled)

3 eggs (at room temperature)

3 cups wheat flour

3 (or more) cups white flour

How to make Honey Wheat Pan Rolls

Dissolve the warm water, yeast, and honey together. Wait 5 or so minutes until it starts to get foamy.

When your family asks you to bring something to share at dinner, tell them you'll bring Honey Wheat Pan Rolls. They'll love them, and you will, too!

Add salt, butter, and the 3 eggs.

Next, add the wheat flour, one cup at a time, stirring after each addition.

Add the white flour, one cup at a time, stirring after each addition.

(If you’re baking on a humid, rainy, or snowy day, you may need more than 3 cups of the white flour.)

When the dough is too hard to stir with a wooden spoon, it’s time to knead.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes. Then you will end up with a beautiful blob of Honey Wheat Pan Roll dough (as seen below) that’s just waiting to have more magic happen to it.

Place the blob of dough in a greased bowl—we use homemade lard—cover the bowl with a towel, and let the dough rise in a warm place for an hour. After an hour, you will have poofy magic dough.

Punch the dough down and:

  • divide it into two blobs.
  • take one of those two blobs and separate it into four smaller blobs.
  • take each of those four smaller blobs and divide each of them into three even smaller blobs.

This is how we make 12 rolls that will be similar in size.

Now it’s time to shape the rolls. I am sure there is a really fancy way to do this, but I’m going to show you the super simple and quick way that I shape rolls and buns.

Place the buns in two greased 9×13 pans. They should not be touching yet.

Clearly, these pans are well used.

Let the rolls rise in a warm place for 30 minutes (or until the sides of the rolls touch).

Now, it’s time to bake! Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.

Your house is going to smell so good.

  • Hi,, The rolls sound awesome but would take too many pages to print it off!!
Any chance you could do a PRINT FRIENDLY post so the recipe could be printed without all of the individual pictures of how to make them? Would be much appreciated.

    • Funny you should mention it. It’s on my list to go through my blog and add a print friendly version to my recipes. The long explanation and pics are good for folks who want a lot of direction, but I know some folks just want to get to the goods! Thanks for your suggestion, and hopefully I will have that change up and running in the next couple weeks. 🙂

  • I’m a sucker for all things bread. I love making fresh bread, and more so, trying out different recipes. I definitely plan on giving this one a try. Thanks for sharing.
