You can make just about anything in your crock pot, and hot chocolate is no exception. Here’s a fabulous rich and creamy recipe that will warm your family up and bring smiles all around, complete with yummy toppings served buffet style.

Crock Pot Hot Chocolate

Ingredients for Crockpot Hot Chocolate

4 oz. unsweetened chocolate, chopped

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 (14 oz can) sweetened condensed milk

1 Tbsp vanilla

1/2 gallon white milk (we used whole milk)

How to Make Crockpot Hot Chocolate

In your crock pot, combine both chocolates and the sweetened condensed milk.

Mix well. Cover the crock pot and cook on high for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, stir until everything turns into a goo of melty chocolately goodness.

Now, stir in half the regular milk with a wire whisk until well blended. Pour in the rest of the milk and add the vanilla, too. Cover and cook another 2 hours.

To serve, set out all the yummy toppings for dressing up your hot chocolate: mini marshmallows, whipped cream, toffee bits, crushed candy canes, whole candy canes, mini chocolate chips…anything you think would taste good sprinkled over or in your mug of goodness.

…the end, Amen, and Yum.

Tips for Crockpot Hot Chocolate

We doubled our recipe as we were making it for a crowd. It was warm in two hours, but not hot. I am guessing if you don’t double the recipe, a two hour cook time is just fine.

The males in our crowd were not fans of this recipe. The females thought it was amazing. With the unsweetened chocolate bar, the hot chocolate turns out to be rather dark and not over-the-top sweet like some hot chocolate recipes can be. If you’re into dark and rich chocolaty-ness (me! me! me!) then this is a great recipe. If you’re not, I would try changing your unsweetened chocolate bar to milk chocolate or other. 😉

  • How many 8 ounce serving is this recipe ? Having a Woman’s Ministry date night with Jesus coming up this would be great to make.

    • That sounds neat! With the way the recipe is written, I would say 8-10 cups (just doing the math with how many cups are in a gallon and then adding a bit for the extra ingredients). But to be honest, we’ve never made this without doubling it…and me and my gal pals drank it way too fast to even think about measuring it out. 😉 Next time I make it, I WILL figure out the servings!

  • I would think it would be best if you warmed the milk before pouring it in the chocolate mixture especially when you make a double batch.
