I’ve made a lot of homemade bread over the years here at Clucky Dickens Farm. So today I’ve gathered 12 of my favorite homemade bread recipes in one place, everything from traditional loaves to rolls and buns and other doughy goodness.
Whether you are brand spankin’ new to bread baking or you’ve been playing around with dough for years, I hope you find something here to make your baker heart and hands happy.
1. Easy French Bread
This recipe is not only pretty darn easy, but it’s relatively quick for a yeast bread. Bonus? It will give you a light-ish loaf you can use for garlic bread, French bread pizza, or even sandwiches in a pinch. An egg wash makes it look shiny and totally legit and awesome enough to be Instagram worthy (if that happens to be your jam).

2. One Rise Baguette
One Rise Baguette feels fancy because it’s twisty and it can be used for sub sandwiches or as a great side to spaghetti, soup, salad, or stew. The best thing? From start to finish, this bread only takes approximately 90 minutes. No lie.

3. Honey Wheat Bread
As close as we ever get here to a traditional sandwich type bread, this is recipe worth your time to try out. When the kids were little I would make many loaves at a time and stick them in the freezer. When the kids got older… a fresh out of the oven loaf would disappear before it even had a chance to make it into a bread bag.

4. Crusty Round Loaf
This crusty round loaf is perfect alongside a bowl of soup, but it’s also pretty fantastic warm from the oven with a generous amount of butter. Possibly an entire stick. Not that I would know anything about that. It’s one of our favorites!

5. English Muffin Bread
English muffins are great when you toast them and slather them with butter and peanut butter because there is something amazing about how it all melts and fills up the holes of the muffin with the perfect ratio of awesome.(Just me?) So imagine my excitement when I learned there was such a thing as English Muffin Bread. Sign. me. up.

6. Hamburger Buns
The best way to serve a hamburger is on a homemade hamburger bun. They are delicious and far more filling than store-bought buns. I always caution my husband “now remember, these are FARM buns. They’re gonna fill you up.”

7. Honey Wheat Pan Rolls
There is so much goodness in these Honey Pan Rolls. Make ’em any time you want, but I find them to be especially fantastic for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners.

8. Bagels from Scratch
If you have never made bagels from scratch it’s quite the adventure. They aren’t difficult, per se, they’re just… weird. I mean, you make some bread dough, shape it, let it rest for a bit, and then… throw it in some simmering water? Yeah. Weird. But also? Delicious.

9. Easy Breadsticks
From scratch twisty breadsticks that are quick — you can have these done in an hour, from start to finish. That’s how you become a keepin’ recipe at our house!

10. Soft Pretzels
While homemade soft pretzels aren’t the most complicated thing in the world, they do require a bit more attention than a loaf of bread. These are slightly more time consuming as a recipe but oh-my-word so amazing, and they’re great when you want a special treat.

11. Bread Bowls
Sometimes the best way to serve a hearty soup or stew is in a homemade bread bowl. This recipe is an easy way to make them a reality in your home. The great thing is that you can control the size. And if you don’t want to eat your entire bread bowl? Your chickens will totally help you out.

12. Pizza Dough
A farmgirl who loves pizza as much as I do eventually has to learn how to make it. And learning to make your own dough means you’ve got a lot of freedom with the toppings you choose. Have you ever tried a pizza topped with slices of leftover bratwurst, cheese, and fresh basil? Or how about a “Big Mac Pizza” – pickles, onions, ground beef, and cheese over a Thousand Island Dressing sauce? Go make your own dough right now!

Whether you’re making a loaf of bread to go with supper, a batch of homemade buns, or something a little different, I hope these recipes give you plenty of reasons to get your hands in that dough.
And remember, homemade bread doesn’t have to be perfect. Sometimes it’s a little lopsided, sometimes it doesn’t rise quite like you expected, and sometimes you eat half of it warm from the oven before anyone else gets a piece.
That’s just part of the fun.
