I know that “borrowing a cup of sugar from a neighbor” isn’t as common now as when I was a kid, but it’s a simple act that underscores the essence of community. In today’s episode, I’m posing some thought-provoking questions: Who would you call if you needed immediate help? Do you have someone kinda sorta nearby who could lend a hand in one of Life’s hiccups?

You might have a ton of online friends (people you talk to everyday!) but chances are your online friends live too far away to let your dog out or help fix your flat tire. So today I’m highlighting the need for strong, local relationships that go beyond online connections. (Main topic starts at timestamp 6:00)

Other updates from the lifestead include:

  • Celebrating my cousin’s accomplishment
  • Soup series is taking over my kitchen
  • A big order arrived at my house…
  • Grinding corn, planting garlic, processing apples, it’s a busy time of year

I hope this episode makes us all “think.” It’s full of tough questions as I consider why in-person communities seem harder to build, and point out a few things we might need to wrap our heads around (or let go of) in order to make reliable in-person communities a reality in our modern world.
